What is a Veterinary Oncologist?
A veterinary oncologist is a veterinarian with a minimum of 2 years of specialty training beyond veterinary school. Most veterinary oncologists have completed a 1 year small animal internship followed by a 2 or 3 year residency training program in medical oncology. In addition to residency training, certification as a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, subspecialty of Oncology, requires satisfactory completion of a 2-part examination and publication of a research project in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Kobi
Patient and Client Interface,
Office Manager |
Kobi brings 12 years of knowledge and a wide range of experience in specialty veterinary medicine.
She has been with Dr. Hershey since the grand opening of Integrative Veterinary Oncology and has worked with
Dr. Hershey since 2003. She is a native of Colorado but also grew up in sunny California.
She too like the rest of us, has many animals: a dog named Sasha, who is a yellow Labrador Retriever and two cats- Semba, a black domestic short hair, who was rescued from a local veterinary clinic, and Monkey, who was rescued from another veterinary clinic and bottle fed (yes she’s a little crazy). Kobi often rescues and rehomes stray and injured animals. As with some of our other employees Kobi has had to deal with one of her own pet’s cancer treatment. Sasha was diagnosed in June 2009 with a cancerous tumor on the spleen. She had her spleen removed and follow up chemotherapy.
|
In October of 2010 Sasha was diagnosed with kidney failure. Sasha also has bilateral Achilles ruptures and is handicapped and has special shoes to help her walk. She has acupuncture treatments with Dr. Hershey to improve her quality of life both and to help bring down her kidney values. She feels awesome! She swims twice a week, runs faster than Kobi and is happy.
Because of Sasha’s second chance at life Kobi wanted to pay it forward, so she had Sasha certified as a pet therapy dog. Kobi and Sasha bring love and emotional support to veteran patients at the V.A. Hospital. They also work with Hospice of the Valley and Gabriel’s Angels.
Kobi has the ability to connect with our clients and she has compassion and passion for her work here at Integrative Veterinary Oncology. She strives to make the experience here the best it possibly could be.

Emy
Veterinary Technician |
Emy
Emy has been a technician in the Phoenix area for approximately 10 years. She has worked in general practice with both small and large animals, shelter medicine, emergency and spay/neuter. She is a native of Arizona that spent the majority of her childhood on the back of a horse. Whether it was riding English and Hunter Jumper or Western, running barrels and roping, she has always been a girl of the outdoors and enjoys anything that comes with it.
She has 2 pets, a French Bulldog mix that was adopted from a shelter and also a cat with one eye that originally came to her as a foster but in return found her forever home. She also opens her home from time to time for animals in need and provides a foster environment until they are healthy enough to go to their forever homes.
She has really enjoyed getting into the swing of things at IVO and seeing the benefits that come from alternative medicine. She will be visiting the Chi Institute in Florida in 2012 and will be learning first hand about acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. She hopes to be more knowledgeable from that experience and be able to express to owners how important alternative medicine is and in what ways it can benefit their animal. |
